Abstract Much of the discourse on West African migration ignores gender perspectives or tends to focus women ‘as’ while men are portrayed as, perhaps unwittingly, neutral un-gendered. On contrary, both and migrate from their homes either permanently temporarily with without families. These movements impact traditional family system many countries within region migrants themselves. The notion male as a ‘bread winner’ ‘mover’ has witnessed changes; remittances transferred by males female used support improve wellbeing households; division labour its associated roles re-negotiated when females independently; some abused exploited at destination areas. analysis in chapter thus indicates that there key gendered dynamics impacts themselves households. Additionally, relations central remittances, aspirations, return migration. In process, masculinity femininity ideals negotiated changed, even if patriarchal norms continue affect notions settings.
